The way customers find and buy products is changing. For years, the dominant model was simple: a customer knew what they wanted, typed it into a search bar, and made a purchase. Amazon was built on this behaviour, and the brands that mastered search-led commerce thrived.
That model is not disappearing. But it is no longer the whole story.
Discovery-led commerce is reshaping how consumers encounter products, make decisions, and ultimately buy. Customers are now finding products they were not looking for, through entertainment content on TikTok and Instagram, and converting fast, sometimes within the same session. The discovery and the purchase intent are collapsing into a single moment in a way that traditional eCommerce was never designed to handle.
For established brands selling on Amazon, this creates both an opportunity and a risk. The opportunity is significant: TikTok Shop is generating demand at scale for products across every category, from beauty and wellness to technical and specialist products. The risk is that brands managing TikTok and Amazon as separate workstreams, with separate teams and separate KPIs, are missing the connection between them.
This is what we call the eCommerce halo effect. A customer discovers a product on TikTok. They do not buy there and then. Instead they go to Amazon, search for the brand, and make the purchase. That sale appears in Amazon data with no credit given to TikTok. Brands that do not understand this dynamic pull back on their TikTok investment because the direct revenue figures do not look impressive, without realising they have just switched off one of the things quietly driving their Amazon growth.
We see this play out regularly across the brands we work with. When a client invests seriously in TikTok content and that content starts to perform, Amazon sales spike. Branded search increases. Organic rank improves. The platforms are influencing each other in ways that standard reporting does not capture.
Understanding and acting on this connection is one of the most significant growth opportunities available to eCommerce brands right now. It is also one of the least well understood.
