A picture is worth a thousand words, and when it comes to shopping on Amazon, a great product image is undoubtedly worth much more. Brands cannot hope to be successful on Amazon with poor images, online shopping is all about the visuals. When customers cannot touch or see a product in person, they rely heavily on images to make purchase decisions.

As a solution, Amazon offers in-house photography studios to capture products in their best light. Amazon also offers this service to sellers with FBA products, for a fee.

What is Amazon Imaging Services?

Amazon Imaging Services is a large network of teams that vary in size. These include photographers, stylists, producers, graphic designers, studio operations specialists and program managers across the Americas, Europe, Asia and India. “These teams manage the planning and shooting of commercially relevant images and push the boundaries of image management by operating at a massive scale, using state-of-the-art equipment and technology to optimize for artistry and efficiency,” Amazon explains on their product imaging jobs website.

Why use Amazon Imaging Services?

Strong images result in high click through rates and better conversion on your listings. While stellar and accurate product information in your title, feature bullets, and product descriptions are also crucial, customers may just scan copy without getting into the nitty gritty.

While you may be aware that product images will appear on your detail page, they also appear in many other places, like search results, thumbnails, promotions, emails, and more. Compelling images are an integral part of a product’s success on Amazon.

Up-to-date image standards for Amazon vendors can be found in Vendor Central help topics. Some requirements are obvious (like each product MUST have a main image) other items are a little more specific, such as certain resolution, image sizes, and removal of watermarks.

Using Amazon Imaging Services means your products will be photographed beautifully and accurately from the start. This saves time and ensures consistent, accurate and high-quality images that can help you sale products.

Costs for these services

Pricing for Amazon Imaging Services can vary depending on product type. For FBA products, Imaging Services will take at least two images for each product.  Certain categories, like fashion, will utilize 360-degree images. According to Amazon, pricing comes in tiers of $50 for simple products like towels and toys, $100 for more complex products like jewelry and watches, and $150 for fashion images needing a human model or large or bulky items such as furniture. For details, see Amazon’s YouTube video or visit your account.

With more competition than ever on Amazon, great images can take your product listing to the next level. At eCommerce Nurse, we also recommend product image optimisation. For imaging and design help specific to your account, please contact us
