TikTok is constantly evolving — and so is the way content performs on the platform. If you're still relying on what worked six months ago, chances are you're already behind.
As an official TikTok Shop partner, we’re plugged into what the platform is prioritising right now. From AI scanning to content structure, the rules are shifting fast — and understanding them can mean the difference between going viral and going unseen.
Here’s what you need to know to stay ahead and keep your TikTok Shop content performing at its best.
1. Clearly Hold the Product (Yes, Really)
It may sound obvious, but TikTok’s automated systems are watching — literally.
Right now, TikTok is flagging content where the product isn’t clearly being held or used, especially in ad-style or review videos. Why? The platform is cracking down on content that appears disingenuous or too “ad-like” without showing the product in use.
Solution: Be hands-on. Make sure the product is visible, in hand, and being demoed wherever possible.
2. Lean Into Longer Videos
Short and snappy isn’t the only route to success anymore. In fact, TikTok is currently prioritising longer-form content — think videos up to 3 minutes long.
Longer content gives the algorithm more data to work with, and it keeps viewers on the platform longer — a win for everyone.
Share storytime reviews, tutorials, or behind-the-scenes looks that hold attention for longer. More watch time = more reach.
3. Snappy, Edited Formats Perform Best
Even with longer videos, pacing is still everything.
TikTok is favouring quick cuts, clean edits, and no awkward pauses. Whether you’re talking to camera or showing a product, trim your footage tightly to keep the momentum going. Check out our example video on our TikTok channel which demonstrates this quick cut, slight overlap technique.
Bonus: This editing style also plays well into TikTok’s native storytelling — fast, to the point, and super watchable.
4. Use In-App Captions
Here’s one of TikTok’s current internal pushes: they’re actively promoting in-app captioning. In fact, some users have been told their videos will be pushed further if they use TikTok’s native caption tools.
So skip third-party subtitles for now — and caption directly in TikTok’s editing interface to boost your content’s visibility.
